You probably know this already, but Cubs have a couple of weak spots. First, the front steering casting that is also part of the lower radiator has a nasty habit of getting cracks from freezing. They appear right below the front grill screen and often run parallel to the ground. They can be brazed or welded. The second place to look is behind the lower radiator hose casting on the right side of the engine. Check behind there for cracks. These are structural and usually from bouncing the front end or other situations that tax the Cubs ability. These cracks can be brazed or welded. I know first hand about these weaknesses..my Cub has both, but it is still at work every week or so cutting grass. The welds have held fine. The L head engine is pretty tough, but you can't pull the head and give it a valve job...the valves are in the block. Front wheel weights are rare, so if you have them, they are almost gold. Rear weights from the A are different then the Cub but will fit. On the plus side, there are very few parts you can't buy new and those you can't are only one good boneyard away. Prices are pretty reasonable too. Get one and have fun with it. My dad has mine on extended loan and he has basically told him I'll have to fight him to get it back (and his only tractor is a JD 4020). So everyone can find something to love about the little buggers. BB
