On the MD, the switch inside that front cover on the manifold grounds out the magneto when in diesel mode. It opens in gas mode so the magneto is not grounded and can make a spark. The wire to the magneto comes out of the bottom of the chamber that has the switch. There is a grommet in the hole to protect the wire. The back chamber has the mechanism that operates the manifold butterflies that direct air though the carb in gas mode. Don't think oil should be in there. Must have gotten in there from a leak at the cross shaft that operates the switch over mechanism, or maybe a cylinder is blowing oil out and it leaked around the shaft into the chamber.
