Yes, and it is especially bad if you are using a cable modem, leaving your computer continuously up and the modem to the internet active. One friend of ours that had that got 98 E-mails most from folks she never heard of. Her computer was working sending e mails to anybody it could find while she was away. If you have a cable modem, it is essential to have a "firewall" program to protect you from someone coming in and using your computer without you even knowing it.
