It sounds to me as if those seals are the crimp on , positive oil seals,I think they are made by Perfect Circle. This type is used quite a bit in high performance automotive engines, but I've never seen them used on a tractor engine....Makes me think maybe they seal out too much oil, causes the guides and valves to wear quicker? they were usually used along with bronze valve guides.
