Distillate was used long before the War. Was few cents a gallon cheaper than gasoline and less likely to be stolen for use in a car. Also had more BTU per gallon, so power delivery could indeed be more than gasoline. For today, K-1 should work extremely well in an all-fuel tractor. For the pre-war JD that I drove during the war, in a hard pull the exhaust emitted tiny drops of black that made my bare torso (no shirt) look like I had freckles. Some farmers who did frequent stop-and-go used 50-50 mix of gasoline and distillate in the tank. Distillate tractors should crank very well on this mix in the summertime.
