Your magnito will work just fine with a 12-volt battery start. The wire that originally run to the mag was a ground wire and used to kill tractor. Note that some people had trouble with these mags and added an external battery powered coil. This coil had wires that run into the mag so the mag was essentially battery powered. If yours is set up like this you will have to possibly convert the juice to that coil to the right voltage if it isn't already. If mag is a working untampered with mag it will opperate just fine being left alone. A mag generates its own electricity and doesn't need juice from an outside source such as battery or generator. If you convert to 12 volt it is pretty standard to convert to negative ground. You just polarize the generator the other way, switch wires around on ampe guage, and if you have a battery powered coil you run the current through the other way. Adding 12 volt battery may require replacing some items or reducing the juice to your lights and what not. A conversion kit should have these items that need replaced. Your original starter, and lights will work just fine no matter which way you are grounded. The 12 volt battery being added will cuase problems for your lights and may for the starter becuase of the extra juice.

"Run in the house and get me a...."as I open th
