Eddie- Thanks for the feedback. I like the idea of reinforcing that joint. Unfortunately, the only welding I'm capable of is with JB Weld. I'm pretty sure the bands were actually new. Where they separated, the rod's metal is shiny all the way around without a molecule of rust anywhere. And I can see the bands through the cast opening and they're bright and shiny too. (Besides, the dealer had new bands listed as parts on the repair invoice.) I'm thinking they were built on a Monday morning by a new employee with a hangover ...
