Proper shut off procedure is: 1) Shut off gas to carburator 2) At the same time, move starting lever to gas position and the diesel speed control to the shut off position. 3) Let engine run in gas mode until the gas is out of the carb and it dies from lack of fuel. 4) Move the starting lever back to the diesel position. This is VERY IMPORTANT. The decompression valves need to cool in the closed position to avoid warping them. This procedure will clean the residual diesel out of the cylinders and make starting easier. If you have been shutting off with out changing to gas and you are getting dieseling, you must be leaking some gasoline into the manifold in diesel mode.
