IH HyTran is what would be generically called tractor trans-hydraulic oil. It can be used in transmissions and hydraulic pumps/systems. It usually corresponds approximately to SAE20 non-detergent motor oil. Either one will work pretty much the same, but I prefer the trans-hydraulic oil personally. Price is about the same, but I figure the hydraulic oil is formulated to work in hydraulic systems where motor oil is primarily a libricant.
If the hydraulic oil does not give satisfactory service in your system, try the SAE 30 non-detergent oil. Sometimes a worn pump will give good service with the SAE 30 when the lighter oil won't.
