WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING, PULL ONE SPARK PLUG WIRE AT A TIME , TO ISULATE THE KNOCK..THEN YOU KNOW WHAT CYL. TO CHECK. IF YOU PULL THE PAN AGAIN, TAKE THE ROD CAP OFF , AND PUSH THE PISTON UP JUST TO CLEAR THE CRANK(BE CAREFULL,TOO FAR , AND A RING MIGHT POP OUT OF THE BORE)..NOW CHECK TO SEE IF THE TOP END OF THE ROD WILL MOVE BACK AND FORTH ON THE PISTON PIN, IT SHOULD SLIDE SMOOTHLY.....IF THE ROD IS STICKING ON THE PIN , THE PISTON WILL KNOCK ON ACCELERATION...WHAT YOU'LL HEAR IS THE PISTON SKIT , SLAPPING THE BORE...ON SOME RODS(SMALL END)THERE IS A LUBRICATING HOLE ,DRILLED IN THE TOP, AND THIS IS THE ONLY WAY IT GET OIL....ALSO ON AN ENGINE THAT SITS AWHILE , THE PINS TEND TO SIEZE UP IN THE PISTONS
