Your 656 seat might be similar to the one on my 806. On my tractor the forward/aft/up/down is all one single adjustment. Here is what I have to do to make an adjustment: On the left side of the seat there are two levers. One is a large foot-operated red lever. The other is a smaller black hand-operated lever. The red foot-operated lever is used when you want to raise the seat out of the way so you can operate the tractor while standing. It has nothing to do with the adjustment you want, but the seat must be raised by using the red lever before you can make the adjustemnt. After raising the seat, activate the black lever on the left side of the seat. This will disengage the pawl from a gear-like quadrant on the right side of the seat. While holding the black lever in place with one hand, reposition the gear quadrant with your other hand. Now release the black lever and the pawl will engage with the gear quadrant in a different place than it was before. Now sit down on the seat with a lot of force so the seat will go back down to its normal operating position. Evaluate this new position. If it still is not right, go through this process all over again but put the pawl in still a different place on the gear quadrant. I have a photo of my seat which I can email you if you give me your email addrss. It clearly shows the two levers that I referred to.
