I sold roller chain during 6 years in parts business so let me take a stab at it. To start with 35 has a smaller pitch (the distance from center of roller to center of next roller) than 41. The numbers represent the pitch in 1/8" increments. For example--a #60 chain has a pitch of 6/8" or 3/4 of an inch; #50 has a 5/8" pitch; #40 has a 4/8" or 1/2 inch pitch, etc. A #80 chain would have a pitch of 8/8 which is 1 inch. The main difference between a 40 and 41 is that the 40 is heavier and they will not interchange. The only ag application I ever saw for #41 was for the seed meter drive under the hopper on a White or John Deere (I assume others) planter. I hope this helps.
