Charlynn torque generator-help

I just got a quote from the hydraulic shop to fix my power steering pump- $404 bucks for a new one is what they said! Ouch... The shop claims the unit is shot- but they won't really tell me which part... Does anyone know what tipically goes wrong with these things? Parts are no longer available, but I have access to a machine shop so fabrication is not a problem.
