JPB, My understanding is that the mylar decals are the clear backing (with the printing superimposed upon the mylar). You just peel off the protective paper on the back and place on the unit. The vinyl decals are individual letters/numbers that you remove one by one and place where you want them. I would assume these take much longer to apply with extra labor/patience involved. I have never used the vinyl ones as I've always been pleased with the mylar style and think they are a closer match to the original.//FB
