I'm seriously questioning buying a 3 point right now. Andy's post about farming without one just supports that idea too. From what I've gathered, having a 3 point will give me more options with regard to implements, but it's not really a necessity. However, just so I'm more informed, which publications advertise a 3 point for $300? I've done search after search on the internet and haven't found any businesses selling them with 2 cylinders for less than $700.
