I am no expert on fairways but I think they were nothing more than low highth wheels on a farmall. The wheels were also wider and had no cleats so it wouldn't leave ruts on golf courses or nice lawns on large estates. They were usually used to pull large groups of gang type reel mowers. The only fairway I have ever seen or heard of was an F-12. There may have been an f-20 version but I am really not sure. I am sure some one can add to this. I do know a regular has an open gear for the steering and the later f-12/f-20/f-30 had an enclosed steering gear. That is the quickest and easiest way to tell a regular from an f-20 which are similar in size.Another way is that the regular exhaust comes out of the manifold below the carb and has a large bulb shaped "muffler". The f-20 exhaust goes up striaght out of the top of the manifold.Does the tractor have a serial number plate or a stamping in a raised boss on the side of the block? that will tell a lot.

On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
