Dick: Thats a respectable post in that you took time and effort to look up information and present your views. I have a very old(40years) degree in electrical engineering that I've not used in 35 years but I'll say, off hand, that your comparison to a 6 volt starter working well on 12 volts is a reasonable comparison to expecting a 6 volt device like a generator to put out 12 volts. This depending of course on how it is done electrically. Sound reasonable to me. The key is that we are talking just 6 volts to 12 volts and not 6 watts to 12 watts. That means that if the current is reduced when going to the higher voltage, we're still talking about the same amount of watts or work being done. Even at 3:30AM it sounds OK. Probably reduces the expected life of the device but what the heck. ralph
