Bill - Check also that the top surfaces of the grille and gas tank are level with each other. Sometimes the padding (soft washers) between the tank mounting brackets and the bottom of the tank are deteriorated, or are missing altogether. The tank then rides low relative to the grille. The hood sloping down to meet the gas tank results in a noticable mismatch and gap where top front edge of the hood meets the grille. My Super H had this problem - can see it in this photo. Installing new padding and raising the tank about 1/2" cured the problem.
