I had the same problem on a tractor and used a coating product to seal it. Works fine, no problems for about 5 or so years now. Follow the directions faithfully. Use the cleaner that your sealer calls for to get it ready to coat. I put several coats in mine. It takes a little time, but it's worth it. I got mine from a supply shop in California that advertised in Red Power magazine, I don't remember the name of it.
