McCormick B275 Hard to Start

We are still in summer and I am having a hard time to start the machine. When I bought it (not much help now) It started fairly well. The owner used some starting fliud, I thought maybe because it was sitting for a while. I need to use it all the time. Not when it is warmed up though. There is a small leak out of the fuel bowl by the start lever and the air filter housing on the inside has a lot of build up,like moist bees nest material grey and stick.
