When I bought Old Red H in 1990, it had run on detergent oil all it's life. Lots of sludge in the oil pan and I had to thoroughly clean the intake screen. The rocker arm area though was not too bad if I recall. For about the next 200 hours, I changed the oil and filter around every 50 hours. The filter would be pretty well packed by then. It has been running clean since about 1992.
