Paul - I suspect the alternator is wired up wrong. Easiest way to find out is to remove the alternator and bring it to NAPA, Auto Zone, etc. and have them test it for you. If the alternator tests OK at the store, the problem's gotta be the wiring. The wiring arrangement you describe is for a "one wire" alternator. Unless that's what you specifically purchased, the alternator you have needs additional control wiring in order for it to work. ...Bob M
