Carl you will have to pull the light box apart to make sure you get the correct wire to the correct post on the VR. One wire should go from the bat. terminal to the negative post on the ampmeter. The other wire possibly goes from the L terminal on the VR to the junction box in the light box. That junction box will have both a wire going to the light switch, via the fuse, and another wire to the coil switch. The bat. terminal should be the center post of the three. You do not have to wire the lights and coil switch using the L terminal. You can run both wires off the negative side of the ampmeter which was how the early Hs and Ms were wired.
