ALWAYS, ALWAYS, leave the T/A in the Direct Drive position when going downhill. Never, ever get going down a hill and throw the lever into direct drive! Doing so may cause the T/A to self destruct, violently. They have been known to send parts right through the casing when they fly apart. When operated as intended a T/A will give many years of dependable service. Most T/A problems are caused by misuse and abuse.
Buy an operators manual, follow it's instructions and I think you will like the T/A feature.
