Jeff ignore the black wire. That is for the coil distributor system. Only hook up the blue wire from the bat terminal on the voltage regulator to the negative post on the ampmeter for positive ground. If you have only a 3 position light switch (off, dim, bright), ignore the yellow wire. If you have the 4 position switch (low charge, high charge, dim lights, bright lights), then hook the yellow wire from the field post on the generator to the screw at the bottom of the light switch adjacent to that flat looking resistor. That will give you low charge capability. You probably won't need it though.
