How much should I pay for a Farmall 400 deisel.

I just finished restoring a Super A and I want to try something bigger. A farmer I know has a 400 deisel that isn't running. It would need an engine overhaul and new rubber. How much should I offer him? I don't want to cheat him but I don't want to pay too much either.
