Remember Viet Nam? Korea? don't get too overconfident.
The former Soviet Union got involved in the Afghan civil war, and it turned into their Viet Nam. They may be a small country, but it is their home turf which is always an advantage, plus they've had a long time to amass weapons, and plan tactics.
I am certain we can defeat them if that is the course of action that the government chooses to take, but it needs to be planned out and well coordinated to be effective with minimal US casualties.
