Use the thread tap like Dukster said. Be certain that the holes are free of accumulated dirt first. Use a stiff wire or flat tip screwdriver and compressed air to find the bottom of the hole before using the tap. Lubricate generously and don't try to force the tap; they are brittle and hard to remove from a hole when broken off.
If that doesn't work, install a Heli-coil or other thread insert to maintain the original size. Saves a lot of unnecessary drilling of holes in attachments. Taps & Heli-coils can be found at your professional auto parts supplier.
