Carl, It sounds like the spring under the detent ball for that shifter rail is either broken or missing. Clear your calendar in preparation for a sizeable job to replace the spring and ball. It will require splitting the tractor and removing the torque tube and PTO to remove the rail. The spring and ball is one layer deeper. Not at all what you wanted to hear! :-( Someone should have paid more attention when they assembled it. The detents on both sides should be the same. George Willer
