Wheel's aren't really a good source for paint correctness. However engine, transmission, and frame are generally better. Do all of your numbers match up? Your serial number should be on the plate on tool box, engine, and ?? maybe the frame. If these numbers are different then that might be a sign of a pieced together tractor. I don't know why the serial number charts are from Jan.1 to Dec. 31 and different from the model year numbers but they are. My 37 model F-20 was made in 36 and I know it was originally red but I was recently looking at some before and after photos and I noticed that it had some grey spots as well. I don't know if the grey spots were from years of sitting outside or lead based paint or primer or what but I know it was originally red. The steering column had grey spots on it but I know there was red paint under some of the dirt and grease I scrapped off the same column. If it is not a pieced together tractor, the tractor should tell you the story when you take it apart.

To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
