There are for positions for the lug rims: Lugs to the inside, mounted outside the cast wheel, lugs to the outside mounted outside the wheel, lugs in mounted inside the wheel and lugs out mounted inside the wheel. The closer together the better the steering unless you are in soft ground. Like the rear wheel spacing, seat position, and throttle setting, there is no right or wrong, just some better for some purposes. My brush hog C has one rear wheel set in close to get up to fences and one set wide for stability and to not mash the grass before it enters the brush hog. Looks funny but it is not wrong.
