Oil filter for the H

I ordered an oil filter for the H, went by the number in the catalogue. It's the short version. On the one I took out the top of the filter, where it closes in on the bolt, is almost flat with a 'rubber' seal (almost o-ring) made on to it to close around the bolt. The new one has a thin-metal neck that extends about a half inch up the length of the bolt, no nonmetal part. It fits snug around the shaft, (at least as tight as the old one) but it's not a seal. Anybody know anything about this sort of thing?
