The outlet line should tap into the engine's head where the temperature gage reads from. You'll have to get a T and a elbow fitting to make it work.

Starting depends on the temperature. If your winter temps are above the 15 degrees, you'd be okay. But if it is below 15 degrees, it's much harder to start, especially below 0...but if you have a block heater, things should be okay for the 6v. Converting to twelve volts will be extra insurance. It will just make it alot easier to start because it turns the motor over faster.
