Pappy - You sure you got the wires hooked up right to the regulator? Should go like this: GEN - to generator A terminal
FLD - to generator F terminal
BAT - to ammeter
L - feed to ignition and light switch If you still get a short when you connect, it may be the new regulator is defective (it's happened to me....) Pop open the cover - you may find the cutout relay is stuck closed. The 3rd brush on the later Supers and the x00 series tractor generators is non-adjustable. So the one you describe sounds right for your 200.
