You could consider the 400D a curiosity tractor. It is the successor to the MD and the MD-TA. These engines start on gas (they have a complete set of ignition and gas carb parts) by the use of a third valve in the combustion chamber that opens to a chamber containing the spark plug. Opening that valve reduces the compression so the engine can be started on gas and after warming, switch to diesel. If properly maintained and in good condition, it is a very dependable tractor. However, engine parts are expensive and not easy to find. Chassis parts are mostly the same as the gas version. If the engine is not stuck, there is a very good chance that you can get it going again without great expense. However if much engine work is required, it's going to be expensive. If you can get it cheap, buy it. If you can't get it going, you can get your money back in parts off it. The MD I have was not as good as what you describe when I got it. The engine was loose, but not running. It's now a restored tractor and little engine work was required.
