When I was younger we used to pick corn with a one row John Deere picker behind a Farmall M. We fed out calves(fattened) then. Dad seemed to think that when grinding corn the cob included was good for the cows, required less hay in a batch anyhow. Now we sell all calves as feeders(the way the market is now, in our area, it is more cost efficient), and have since stopped growing corn and now grow alot of hay(mostly alfalfa) to sell. My brother and I are thinking about growing about 10 acres next year to pick and bag and sell to deer hunters. We don't have the M anymore, but we still have two super C's. We have many newer tractors now too, but we are planning on trying to plow with the 2 c's just for fun. Also, I have restored a two row mid-mount corn planter that I plant sweet corn with, we are gonna use that. I guess we will cultivate with them too, but I don't know if they will have enough power to run the picker, we might have to use a newer case ih to run that.
