Chris if it is only the countershaft seal on the transmission end (the shaft that runs the liftall) you will not have to drop the liftall. I have replaced both seals without dropping the liftall but it ain't easy on the upper one. On the lower seal, remove the countershaft. Pull out the two large cotter pins and move the collars toward the center of the shaft. The shaft will then slide out. You will see indentations on the two dogs where the shaft sits. Put the transmission in gear and set the brakes. You turn the countershaft dog counter-clockwise to unscrew it. Use a long piece of flat steel in the slot or a large pipe wrench. That dog can be a real bugger to get lose. Once it is removed, unbolt the flange, or bearing retainer, which holds that seal. Put the flange in the vice upside down and the seal easily punches out. You might also want to replace the gasket between the flange and the transmission while you have it out. If you used a pipewrench to remove the dog, you will probably have to grind down the teeth marks with a grinding stone so the collar will slide back over the dog.
