Jason, I have a 2400 myself. It makes good bales, but it is finicky about feeding (very) dry hay. The feed roller ought to be rubber, every 241 and 2400 I have ever seen has been. Check to make sure that the drive for the roller is working (chain is on, sprocket is actually turning the roller, etc.) and that the pivot arms the roller mounts on are free to swing to allow the roller the vertical movement it needs for varying windrow size. Also check to see that the springs that hold pressure on the roller against the hay are on and doing their job. One operational trick that helps in very dry hay: if you get a bale started and then it stops turning (which will cause the hay to start building up on the pickup,) slow the tractor and bump the gate open just slightly. This will usually start the core turning again, and allow the baler to feed. As soon as it gets going, tighten the gate back down. Might have to do this a couple of times, but by the time the bale reaches 2 1/2' or so you won't have any more problems. Just one note on the other replies: I like New Holland equipment. I think it's some of the best hay equipment you can buy. But if someone offered me a New Holland CHAIN TYPE round baler for free, I'd run the opposite direction, fast as I could for as long as I could. Newer New Holland BELT TYPE balers make the best bales I have ever seen.
