Paul, If you think it's a reasonable price based on your needs, then it's reasonable. It's the kind of tool that when you need it, you need it. It's worth its weight in gold when you don't have one. Personally, if it's in that good of condition, it sounds like a fair price. I'd offer $200 and work to an agreeable price with the seller.
As far as getting your wife to let go of the money - you're on your own!
