I'm going to assume that you knew you had clear water in the cooling system. Two choices...
1) You have residual antifreeze from the block that is green in color.
2) You have copper corrosion from the radiator that is coloring the water.

Either way... you need more than just water in there anyway. You are going to have corrosion problems without a good anti-freeze with corrosion inhibitor. Open the block drain(s) and the radiator drain... Mix yourself some 50/50 solution of a good anti-freeze and water (I think its worth buying distilled for a classic) and refill it with this solution. 50/50 should give you adequate protection from boiling over, rust, and freezing.
