If I had a choice, I would stick with a 12 volt generator and a regulator. I have two tractors with one wire alternators on them and the engine on the old A and C just don't turn fast enough for them to start charging on their own. When I start up, I have to reach in and pull the carb governor rod back to race the engine to get the charging process started. Once started, they charge fine at lower RPM. I've put the smallest possible pulleys on the alternators and even changed one of the alternators out and the problem still persists. If you need a bracket, hunt you up a starter/generator shop and go there. The shop I use has universal mounting brackets just made to attach alternator to old tractors, cars, etc.
