EG: I checked my earliest '48 C and it has the name BALL in large letters midway and at the bottom is "perfect mason". It also has 6 vertical ridges around the outside of the jar. This is to keep fingers from slipping when unscrewing it. There are no marking as to liquil level in ounces as do normal Ball jars. I believe this to be an original jar. Casting numbers is a good way to check age of all major cast-iron parts. Just under the heel of the left foot when touching the clutch is a number that has three parts. Example: 5*22*R would be may 1948 etc. R1 is related to part numbers and not a year. Engine number is on flat surface above #1 plug. They do not always match the rest of the tractor but are close. Check archives for more info if needed or post back. good luck. ralph
