The transmission in the Cub does make some noise by design. It uses straight-cut gears, which are noisy by nature. My Farmall 100 does the same thing in first and fourth gears. It also has straight-cut gears in the transmission. I'm not saying that you don't have any bad bearings, etc., but some noise is normal.
