ground the field if it shows a charge on your ammeter your reg is bad if it doesent show charge the gen is bad have you polorized the gen by jumping quick bat to arm terminal is the reg grounded to the gen does it have a good groundm do you have a reg that is the right pol it should say on the base underneath did you get the right number reg for your gen there should be a no plate on the gen their outputs are not the same so it is important to have the right reg
