diesel to gas?

I ran a 400 IH gas that always had a mild "knock" that came and went. It came big time a short while ago; loud bang, sputtering engine, heavy smoke. The oil is now full of water. I'm assuming a cracked block (haven't opened it up yet). I have a junked 400 diesel with a good block. Are these blocks interchangeable? Would there be a lot of work involved in converting the diesel to a gas? Any advice appreciated.
