That doesn't sound as bad as "dry rot," does it? The ad for Mr. Haney, the H, said something along the lines of "good tread on rear." And there is, except... The left is in good shape but the right pretty far gone. The sidewall has picked off in places down through the first layer of fabric. I learned from the hay ride down to the sandbar that if he's going to pull a loaded dump trailer on our sandy roads he's going to need some more weight on the back. Since I haven't been able to find wheel weights close by enough to be practical I'm going to go with water (with antifreeze, not calcium - I worry too much). Anyway, what I'm getting around to is: I've read back the posts about this, but to actually call and order a new tire I need a little more encouragement. Somebody tell me I'd be a fool not to.
