I agree with Andy Martin, but be careful that no weld splatters go down the manifold...I saw an H last year that someone had welded the manifold and there was one piston with a chewed up surface from the welding splatters...if you are welding around the outside of the pipe it shouldn't be a concern...take it off if you are welding inside the manifold
