i've been lucky so far with electrical wiring. i have a friend who runs a auto-electric shop, who is also heavy into antique engines. i traded 2 old incomplete 3 hp fairbanks morse engines for him to completely rebuild the electrical system on a 1949 minneapolis moline za, using origional cloth pattern (reproduction) wire. we stayed with the origional 6 volt positive ground system. i asked "why positive ground"? he said, early tractors and cars had magnetos and for them to be compatible, the charging system had to be pos.grnd.
