heisler, and behlen both made aftermarket external road gears and yes the origional 4th was located in relation to the belt pulley gear and could not be changed (speed) in that location. the origional transmission speeds were designed for a steel wheel tractor. an f-20 with foot brakes usually indicates higher speed factory 4th. a closer look at the shift pattern (4th at back right,i think) will confirm that. most transmissions have 3 shafts input, driven and reverse. the input shaft usually connects to the end of the engine, the clutch and turns the same speed as the engine. the driven shaft turns slower than the input shaft (geard down)except in the highest gear (direct) and in some cases the driven shaft turns faster than the engine (overdrive). with the heisler and behlen overdrive, the driven shaft might be turning twice the speed of the engine. they make a loud whine when they run. a friend of mine near memphis has an f-20 with a after market internal road gear that will make his tractor run 20 mph.it sits up high on 38in. tires. i rode it once. once was enough!

How can I explain the sensation and exhilaration I feel when I turn the key and hear the engine come to life (most
