I was always taught to back on a tractor, skid-loader, ect. As far as tongue weight, we always just backed the tractor on the trailer just until you noticed the pickup start to sag in the suspension. When we drove it off, always in lowest gear, and tried to never use the brakes as they could be somewhat unreliable. Just my 2 cents.
